1. What kind of student most benefits from a school like yours?

Bright and inquisitive ones who understand that Cranbrook’s challenging and comprehensive program is the best way to prepare for college.

2. What do you think draws most students to look at and consider your school?

Students applying to Cranbrook often tell me that they are bored in their current schools. They are seeking a school where they can learn amongst other highly motivated students, where brilliant teachers are passionate about the subjects they teach. Spending one day visiting classes at Cranbrook is enough for talented students to know that they have found a place that will challenge and inspire them.

3. What prompts most of their parents to consider your school?

Their kids convince them that the opportunities at Cranbrook are too great to pass up.

4. What percentage of your students receives some sort of financial aid?

Approximately 30% of our students receive financial aid with a typical grant being around 50% of tuition.

5. If I were an intellectually talented student with a strong academic record and my public high school offered an honors program and had a solid college placement track record, why should I still consider attending your school?

Cranbrook specializes in preparing students for college. Our graduates tell us that they are able to soar in college and beyond because of their Cranbrook experience, while their peers in college, even ones who have had great success in gifted and talented programs, are often floundering.

6. If I were a student of above average academic ability earning mostly B’s in middle school, would I fit in at your school?

You will fit in, if you are willing to work hard. Effort is rewarded at Cranbrook. Often our admission committee will happily select the involved and hard working student over the straight-A student who is not going to add as much to our school community.

7. What mechanisms are in place to ensure the health and welfare of your students, particularly if they are boarding students living away from home?

Each year approximately 95% of our boarding students return to Cranbrook. This very high number compared with most boarding schools, is testimony to how Cranbrook engages its students. With 70 faculty members living on campus, each boarding student is well known and cared for.

8. Are there any aspects of your school that you would assume most people don’t know, but should know, about your school?

Cranbrook has a fully staffed institute of science and a premier art museum that attract over 250,000 visitors each year.

9. In looking back at their experiences at your school, what would most graduates be likely to say were the best parts?

When I go to my own school reunion, my former classmates and I have a good time reminiscing about our high school days and that is about all there is to the event. But when I experience the Cranbrook reunion each year, I see our graduates running up and hugging their old teachers. They can’t wait to reengage their teachers, to catch up, to share their successes, and to thank them for an opportunity that lasts a lifetime.
